Pet Vaccinations

Why Should You Vaccinate Your Pet?

Vaccinations play a critical role in protecting your pet from many preventable and serious diseases. They work to bolster your pet’s immune system against these infectious diseases.

By NC law, only the rabies vaccine is required for both dogs and cats, but we encourage you to talk with your vet about other important vaccinations. We break them into core vaccinations (universally recommended) and non-core vaccinations (based on your pet’s exposure risk). All of these vaccinations can help keep your pet healthy and safe.

At Tuscan Ridge Animal Hospital, we will start your pet early in their life on a proper vaccination schedule to make sure they’re always protected. Learn about the recommended feline and canine vaccinations below.

Dog Vaccination Guidelines

Canine Core Vaccinations:

  • Distemper
  • Canine Parvovirus
  • Canine Adenovirus-2 (CAV-2)
  • Rabies (required by law)

Non-core Vaccinations:

  • Bordatella (“kennel cough”)
  • Lyme
  • Leptospirosis
  • Canine Influenza

Puppy Vaccination Schedule:

Puppies are typically given a series of vaccines starting between 6–8 weeks of age, and continuing every 3–4 weeks until they are 18 weeks old. We’ll help you structure your pup’s initial vaccination schedule based on their unique needs.

Cat Vaccination Guidelines

Feline Core Vaccinations:

  • Feline Distemper (FVRCP)
  • Rabies (required by law)

Non-core Vaccinations:
